Sam Smith will perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The 'Stay with Me' singer said that he is 'insanely nervous' about his appearance. 'I have watched the VMAs every year since I was a kid,' he explained.'I am so insanely nervous but also so honoured to be performing. This truly is a 'pinch yourself' moment for me.'

Smith joins previously announced artists Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer, who will all be performing on the night.

This year's ceremony will take place on Sunday (August 24) at The Forum in Inglewood, California and will be broadcast on MTV in the US from 8pm. 

Beyoncé, Iggy Azalea and Eminem lead this year's nominations.
